The summer associate program allows our summer associates and the members of our Firm to become acquainted with each other under actual conditions of practice.  Our summer associates will have the opportunity to work with our transactions attorneys in the areas of real estate acquisition, financing, land use and development, and/or corporate, joint venture, and structuring and with our litigation attorneys covering real estate, commercial, tax, and/or other complex civil litigation from commencement of action through arbitration, mediation, settlement, and/or trial or appellate work.

During the ten-week program, summer associates may be asked to draft, prepare, or modify legal documents; conduct legal research and analysis; and attend trials, hearings, depositions and conferences with our attorneys and clients in order to experience firsthand what the practice of law is like in Hawaii and in our office in particular.

While we recognize that not every law student who clerks with us will receive and accept an employment offer, we hire only law students whom we deem presumptively qualified for an associate position upon admission to the bar as summer associates.

Our 2024 Summer Associate position has been filled.  However, we encourage then second year law students to apply in the Fall for the 2025 Summer Associate Program.  To apply, please email your resume, cover letter, writing sample, and transcript to hr@chunkerr.com.

New associates are given an opportunity to work in all areas of our practice, and with all of the firm’s partners so that each can, as soon as possible, become well acquainted with our professional staff, our clients and the kinds of work we do. Our partners maintain an “open door” policy and associates are encouraged to seek guidance. A single partner is assigned to assist associates with balancing workload, assignments and other matters as the need may arise.
